Reliance 40th AGM live updates: JioPhone feature phone will technically be available for free
ukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is holding its 40th Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on Friday. As is the norm with all such meetings, Mukesh Ambani will make a bevy of announcements in and around Jio. RIL is said to be silently working on a new Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone — under the company’s Lyf sub-brand — with its ticket to fame being its ultra-affordable price tag. The feature phone, although it would be a dumb phone for most millennials, would be more feature packed than an other feature phone in the market right now and yet cost just Rs 500 or at least close to it.

Update: We areminutes away. At 11:00 AM IST, Mukesh Ambani will take stage to speak about Jio and quite possibly launch the company’s long-rumoured Rs 500 4G VoLTE feature phone at its annual general meeting (AGM). The company is however not giving away any of its cards yet, which means that we will have to take every speculation around the device with a pinch of salt. Also, chances are — and going by the speculated specs — Jio’s upcoming phone may cost a little over Rs 500 when it hits the shelves, although it would still be priced at under Rs 1,000.
Update: Mukesh Ambani has been taking RIL’s AGMs as stepping stones to make major announcements in and around the company’s Jio 4G services. Jio 4G which made its commercial debut in September last year, is now paid for all meaning it isn’t exactly free the way it was in the initial test-run days. Although, the company has somehow managed to offer its services at a substantially low cost to subscribers leading incumbent telecom operators to up their game. It wold be interesting to see if Mukesh Ambani makes some announcement regarding future plans of its data packs.
